A Career Overview

Originally, Sanchez set out to become an architect, but while attending the Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture he became fascinated by the blossoming hip-hop scene which was flourishing in his native Queens during the late 1980s. As a graffiti artist and break-dancer, he moved in eclectic circles, so it was only natural that he was finally introduced to the art of DJ’ing. He honed his skill in this organic environment which enabled his creativity to flourish, and soon he had an extensive catalogue of more than 2,000 remixed and original productions.

Putting his architectural career on hold, he started selling his mixtapes on Broadway’s sidewalks, using the profits to finance gigs. He released his first 12”, “Dreamworld” in 1990 and it was his “Luv Dancin’” release for Gladys Pizarro which resulted in his first ever tour.

Together with David Morales and Erick Morillo, his fellow house DJs from NYC, he has established himself firmly on the Ibizan club scene where he has held residence every summer for almost two decades. His hits have topped the World and European charts, with not only his remixes but his own music proving popular with his fans. Some of the superstars that he has worked with on remixes include singers and groups as diverse as Maroon 5, The Police, Diana Ross and Kylie Minogue.

An Award-Winning DJ

Sanchez scooped a Grammy Award for the first time in 2003 for his No Doubt remix “Hella Good”. He has also received four “Best House DJ” DJ Awards between 1999 and 2007, with 12 nominations for this coveted accolade overall. He was also awarded the International Dance Music Award in 2007 for Best Podcast and has received no less than eight IDMA nominations between 2003 and 2010 for Best American DJ.

As part of his extensive music career, Sanchez has also founded a record label of his own. Stealth Records was established in 2002 and every year, the DJ curates his own compilation albums series, “Release Yourself”, celebrating the best of Latin, tech, tribal and deep house sounds. He also has another label of his own, “UNDR THE RADR” which was launched in 2014 and which has seen some exciting collaborations.
